Q1:いつ、どこで生まれましたか？

私はイギリスの北部で夏に生まれました。

Q2:写真を始めたのは何歳の頃ですか？　何故写真に興味を持ったか覚えていますか？　また、子供の頃は何に興味を持っていましたか？

少しありきたりの話ですが、私は11歳の時に写真を撮り始めました。
父が熱心なアマチュアの写真家で、彼が私に写真を勧めてくれました。父が持っていたマクロレンズで、満開の花をとても近くで撮ったのを記憶しています。

Q3:最終学歴を教えてください。写真を専門に学んだのでしょうか？

私はグラフィックデザインと写真を勉強しました。

Q4:若い頃に影響を受けた表現はありますか？　例えば写真家、映画、音楽などで夢中になったアーティストやミュージシャンはいますか？

私が小さい頃は、影響というものが何か良く分からなかった。私は、アメリカのテレビ番組を観て育ち、いつもアメリカに対してロマンティックな見方をしていました。20代になってやっと自分のスタイルが確立しはじめました。一番自分にとって影響されたのは私の記憶であり、私の多くの写真はそのような雰囲気を持っていると思います。

Q5:写真を職業にした理由はなんですか？　他の職業を考えたことはありますか？

私は小さい時から、写真を撮るのは楽しいと知っていました。写真が与えてくれた人生に絶えず驚かせられ感謝しています。

Q6:日本で知っている写真家はいますか？　その人のどんなところを評価していますか？

Q7: 現在興味ある被写体や撮影テーマは何ですか？

現在は、山と仏教に興味を持っています。

Q8:現在、商業写真と作家活動、どちらが主体ですか？

半分半分です。

Q9:最近は一眼レフでもムービーが撮れますが、ムービーに関する仕事や活動は行っていますか？

実を言うと、最初の作品をちょうど今作ったばかりです。アメリカのネバタ州で撮影したもので、タイトルは「Tumbleweeds」です。

Q10:ご自分のこれまでの作品でベスト3と思うものを挙げてください。それぞれの選定理由や思い出も教えてください。

フィルムカメラはもう使っていません。

AlpaにPhase one のデジタルバック付き、ライカM9, 動画用にキャノンの５D Mark IIです。

Q14:現在のメインのカメラはなんですか？　その理由も教えてください。

ライカのM9は毎日使っています。Alpaは撮影の日に使っています。

Q15:現在お使いのアクセサリー（三脚／一脚、ストロボ、プリンタなど）を教えてください。

プリンタはエプソンの9900と4800を使っています。私のアーカイブはImacon Flextight スキャナーでスキャンをしています。三脚はカーボンのGizoです。

Q16:その他撮影に欠かせないカメラ関係の道具はありますか？

Alpaでスナップや生活の一部を撮る時は、ライカのDigital Lazer　Measureをフォーカス合わせのために、たびたび使用します。

Q17:デジタル写真の場合、ソフトウェアは何をお使いですか？

Capture OneにLightroom、Photoshopを使用しています。

Q18:現像はご自分で行いますか？

フィルムを使用する時は、ロンドンのRapid Eyeと言うカスタムラボで現像を頼んでいます。

-Biography-

Q1: When and where you were born?

I was born in the summertime in the North of England

Q2:How old were you when you started taking photographs? Do you remember how you became interested in taking pictures? Were there anything else you are interested in back then along with photography?

I know it sounds a little cliched but I started taking pictures when I was 11 years old. My father was a keen amateur photographer and encouraged me start taking pictures. I remember him having a macro lens that I would use to photograph blooming flowers incredibly closely.

Q3: What is your academic background? Did you major in photography?

I studied Graphic design and Photography

Q4: When you were young, did you get influenced from any artists, movies or musicians?

When I was younger I didn't really understand what influences were. I grew up watching American programs on TV and I always had a very romantic view of that country.
It wasn't until my twenties that my style really started to consolidate.
I guess the thing that influences me most is my memory and a lot of my pictures have this kind of atmosphere.

Q5: Why did you choose to be photographers (artists)? Have you ever considered any other professions?

I knew from a very young age that taking pictures was fun and I'm continually amazed and grateful for the life it gives me.

Q6: Do you know any Japanese photographers? If so, what do you think about their work?

Q7: What subjects and themes are you interested in the most right now?

I'm interested in mountains and buddhism at the moment.

Q8: Which is your current main work, commercial photography or non-commercial fine art photograph?

50/50.

Q9: Nowadays, you can take a movie with a single-lens reflex camera. Are you doing any projects or works with movies?

I just made my first one actually. I shot it in Nevada USA and it's titled 'Tumbleweeds'

I don't use film anymore.

Alpa with phase one back, Leica M9, Canon 5d for moving film work.

Q14: Which camera do you use the most? Are there any reasons why?

I use my Leica M9 every day. I use my Alpa on days that are all about photography.

Q15: What camera accessories are you using (e.g. tripod, monopod, strobe light, or printer)?

I make my prints using an Epson 9900 and 4800 printer. My archives are scanned using an Imacon Flextight scanner. I use Gizo carbon tripods.

Q16: Are there any other essential accessories or tools for your photo shoot?

I often use a Leica digital lazer measure to focus my Alpa for candid and life photographs.

Q17: What software do you mostly use for your digital camera (e.g. Photoshop, Capture One, etc)?

Capture One, Lightroom, Photoshop.

Q18: Do you develop films on your own?

When I use film it is processed at a custom lab in London called Rapid Eye.
